Side dishes have always been rough for me.  I actually enjoy listening to Pandora while I assemble a lasagna or prepare chicken for dinner.  But by the time I slide it into the oven, I've usually forgotten about making something to go with it.  Normally, I hastily throw salad into a bowl or toss crescent rolls into the oven if I still have time.  Day after day, though, these things get old and boring.

Something that has seemed to go great with just about anything for us is my own little interpretation of a baking powder biscuit recipe. Of course, I totally just added these ingredients to taste, so if they're too garlic-y or have too much cheese for your liking, feel free to modify!

Garlic Cheddar Biscuits

1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 scoop of crisco (I usually just use a regular tablespoon and use a heaping scoop)
Some milk (until the batter is lumpy but sticky... it should hold it's shape on a baking sheet)
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • Preheat the oven to 400
  • Scoop heaping tablespoons onto baking sheet
  • Bake for about 10 minutes (do a toothpick test)
  • Makes 6 large biscuits
