Every year on Good Friday, everyone goes to my Grandma Ruth's house to color Easter Eggs.  The past three or four years, my grandma has also made cupcakes and a large cake for us to decorate with Easter candy.  This is the first time I've ever had to miss this.

I'll admit, Easter isn't my favorite holiday, but it will definitely be weird not being there this year.  I had today off, so I decided to make my own cake :)  Roger left for school around 7:30 this morning and I couldn't fall back to sleep, so I got up and started baking.

I guess it makes me feel a little better that my Easter Egg Hunt buddy won't be able to make it home for the holiday, either.  Maybe it's time to let someone else win for once ;)  But for real, I'm not that upset that I won't be home this year, but I'm definitely excited that I'll be visiting again in a few weeks.  Olive and I will be here for the rest of the week coloring eggs and putting baskets together.  And of course listening to my favorite Easter worship songs.

My cake decorating skills definitely need some work (Whaddup, Nicole... workshop soon?  Call me.), but it still looks pretty, so I don't really care.

Even the scraps look pretty with a little powdered sugar/milk frosting drizzled over the top :)

It's actually kind of weird how doing these activities that are traditions with your family make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside... even if you're doing them on your own.  For some reason, I've been feeling a lot better here in Massachusetts lately.  Home still has my heart, but I'm beginning to feel content.  Maybe it's the warm weather, and maybe it's the small community businesses/activities I've found recently... Whatever it is, I'm so happy to be happy again.  But more about that another time :)

  1. Cute cake! I was planning to make strawberry shortcakes for Easter, but this look so festive - maybe I'll make my shortcakes pink.

    1. Thanks, Sarabeth! I thought about doing it purple, turquoise, and even yellow, but the pink just seemed so pretty and sweet! I'd love to see how yours turns out :) Thanks for stopping by!
