So if you've been around this blog at all, you've been around long enough to know that I can festify pancakes in any way.  I made candy corn pancakes in October and peppermint pancakes in December.  Valentine's Day is no different!

For these pancakes, I just made enough pancake batter to make six pancakes (yep, right from the box!), and made two like normal.  Then I added four drops of red food coloring to the remaining batter and made two more.  Then I kept adding red food coloring to the rest of the batter until it was the color I wanted it (it was a lot of drops... five or six?) and made two more pancakes!  If you wanted to be super crafty, you could add a little more food coloring after each pancake, then it truly would be ombre!

Then I topped them off with whipped cream (my new favorite pancake topping) and some red sugar-- and of course a pretty gold flag.

Oh, and I couldn't resist putting them on my pink depression glass plate.

I made these and the peppermint pancakes from a box, just because it's so much faster.  But I made the candy corn pancakes using this recipe from my childhood:

1 1/4 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 T sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 c milk
2 tsp cooking oil

So if you're feeling adventurous, make them from scratch!
